Cornus racemosa (Gray Dogwood) is a rhizomatous deciduous shrub that typically grows to 16.3 ft. Gray Dogwood has gray bark and produces white flowers in summer that have a scent resembling that of linen sheet candles. In late summer, Cornus racemosa produces white fruit containing a single seed. Birds feed on the fruit of Gray Dogwood. Cornus racemosa is found from Maine and Virginia to North Dakota and Akransas. Gray Dogwood grows in full sun to partial shade in mesic to dry soils of roadsides, streambanks, and wet meadows. Cornus racemosa is a beautiful addition to riparian, wet meadow, and moist woodland edge mixes. Gray Dogwood is a member of the dogwood (Cornaceae) family. The genus name Cornus is Latin for horn.
